Andy Fuertsch was born in Fort Worth and has lived in Texas for many years and a major influence on his art came from his Mom, a southwestern watercolor artist.
During a few summers he was able to attend some studio painting sessions with other artists at the Fort Worth Art Center. The insightful critiques from these professional artists would become invaluable.
After Fort Worth, his family moved to New Mexico where colors and geography proved an inspiration to him.
Mostly a self taught artist, he landed a few awards at the Texas State Fair at a young age, and has been included in various exhibits throughout Texas, as well as all the way up in New York.
Along with being an artist, Andy has also dabbled as a musician, once the lead guitarist for Lester Bangs and the Delinquents.
My paintings for the most part evolve into a free form style, sometimes with no preconceived idea in mind. I discover new techniques with each new piece; faces, geometry's, and moods are created as a result.
I use acrylic paints because of the fast drying time, and because other ideas may be added at random. I'll blend pigments right on the painting, laying the paint, at times, even without water, resulting in rough textures and vivid colors.
The abstract artists from the Cubist to the Surrealist have all attracted me because of their visions. They spawn life within their art, not copy it. I like my paintings to evoke different visions in whomever views them.
